About this event

Housing markets in the U.S. face numerous challenges. After a sustained period of high price growth rates, many local housing markets have stalled and some are seeing price declines. Housing supply continues to be restricted, with no clear path to the expansion needed to facilitate new household formation and ownership potential.

This FHFA Economic Summit will explore these challenges with industry leaders and researchers. Session one is a panel discussion on housing market price stability. The second session will have research presentations focused on various aspects of the health of housing markets today.

Our panelists provide different perspectives on the prospects for a housing-market price correction. Speakers include: Cristian DeRitis, Deputy Chief Economist of Moody’s Analytics; Charlie Dougherty, Managing Director at Wells-Fargo Bank; Sam Khater, Chief Economist of Freddie Mac; and Odeta Kushi, Deputy Chief Economist of First American Financial Corporation.

For the research presentations we welcome senior researchers: Wenli Li, Senior Economic Advisor and Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia; Mark Palim, Deputy Chief Economist of Fannie Mae; and Susan Wachter, Albert Sussman Professor of Real Estate at the Wharton School.

Director Sandra Thompson and Deputy Director Daniel Coates will share opening remarks.

Participant sign-in is at 12:30pm, the event begins at 1:00pm, and a networking reception follows at 5:00pm. A virtual registration option is available for those unable to attend in person.
